The Biology of Butterflies conferences are usually entirely funded through registration fees paid by the attendees. There is no society or other formal body to financially support these conferences, they have been managed with the labour of love for the research community and study organisms by the organisers. Hence, the BoB conferences typically do not cover expenses of any attendees. Even keynote speakers pay registration fees and attend. It's an exceptionally collegial meeting, and the honour of being invited to deliver a keynote address has usually been sufficient to attract highly accomplished butterfly biologists. Keynote speakers are decided by symposium organisers and the scientific committee.

The only exceptions that have been made are for students who volunteer their time and energy in organizing the conferences. In this case, they get a complimentary registration for the conference. For the BoB 2018 conference, we will also offer limited financial support in terms of registration fee waivers and/or free accommodation in the NCBS Guest House to needy students whose abstracts for posters and oral presentations are accepted for the conference.

If you have any special circumstances for which we might consider waiving registration fee and/or offering free accommodation for the conference, please email us with the details. The decisions to offer fee waivers and free accommodation will be taken by the chairs of the Scientific Committee and the organisers. These decisions will be final, they cannot be appealed and reviewed again.
